If you have an interest in tinkering with cars have you ever given any thought to getting hold of an “old banger” and restoring it during the short winter days, weeks and months. It will certainly keep you occupied, provide a great deal of satisfaction, it doesn’t have to cost the earth but you may end up with a classic car of reasonable value.
However, even if you don’t turn it into a million pound vehicle it will still give you a great deal of pleasure and you will probably be the envy of your neighbourhood as you drive around in your classic car.
The difficult decision is which classic car to choose to buy to restore. Obviously, for most people, budget is a factor but shop around and you may be pleasantly surprised.
What you will find is that there is an awful lot of choice of classic cars out there in the UK. Whether you fancy restoring an MG Midget, Austin A40, Morgan, Mini or a Triumph Spitfire you will hopefully find something suitable. There are a variety of places to start looking for your classic car such as classic car clubs, local newspapers, classic car magazines or on the Internet.
Of course, it is not just about having to find the purchase price – you will also need to pay for the restoration work. In that respect you might like to contact a classic car club to get an idea of how much your preferred classic car will cost to repair.
If the project is affordable you should seriously consider joining the classic car club pertinent to the make of classic car you have chosen as they will be able to provide you with advice and guidance.
As for spare parts for your classic car you can find these through classic car clubs, on the Internet, eBay or have them specially made.
Don’t forget to sort out your classic car insurance.
