A gentleman who died in March this year has very kindly left two valuable classic cars to the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI). The two Ferrari’s were owned by Richard Colton who wished the cars to be sold with some of the funds being used to build a lifeboat for the well-known charity. The cars could fetch a total of £8 million when they come up for auction in October.
One is a 1960 Ferrari 250 GTO SWB Berlinetta with the registration number 574 NOT and the other is a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 with the registration number RCO 777. The former has around 60,000 miles on the clock and the later has driven about 78,000 miles so they have been well used over the years. Apparently, he drove the cars many miles in the years that he owned them.
The Ferrari 250 GTO SWB Berlinetta may sell for in the region of £6 million and the Ferrari 275 GTB/4 for about £2 million. The 250 GTO SWB Berlinetta was one of only 10 right hand drive cars built so is extremely rare.
Mr Colton wanted a lifeboat to be named “Richard and Caroline Colton” after himself and his deceased wife.
Apparently, this is the largest single donation that the RNLI has received. Mr Colton had been a member of it for a minimum of 25 years. The funds will be a tremendous help to the RNLI and will no doubt help them save many more lives in the future. We are sure that you will agree this is a tremendous gesture on the part of Mr Colton.
The auction is being arranged by H & H Classics and is to take place at the Imperial War Museum in Duxford, Cambridgeshire.
So, if the above is of interest to you and you are a lover of classic Ferrari cars then why not get along to the auction that takes place on the 14th October 2015.
