Many years ago, I knew someone who used to own a T registration Ford Escort Popular Plus with a 1300cc engine and a dark brown vinyl roof. It was a lovely, reliable family car. Oh, I bet he wished that he had held onto it as, who knows, it may now be worth a considerable sum based upon what I am now going to write about below.
If you happened to attend the recent Silverstone Auctions NEC Classic Motor Show Sale 2017 you could have witnessed the sale of a 1980 Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Custom classic car that went for a huge sum of money. The vehicle in question was sold for £97,875 with many people interested in purchasing the classic car.
This particular vehicle only has 927 miles on the clock and is in pristine condition with a chocolate brown interior and Diamond White bodywork. It has spent some time in an air chamber that obviously helped maintain its condition. It is a nippy car capable of getting from 0 to 60mph in only 8.5 seconds as it accelerates to a top speed of 108mph. The car is immaculate inside with “Fishnet” Recaro seats and the door mirror on the driver’s side is of the remote variety. It still retains its new car smell.
Whilst writing, I thought you might also like to hear about a rare 1988 Ford Sierra Cosworth RS500 that also came up for sale at the above auction and achieved a price of £112,500. Only 500 of these cars were built with this one in white. It had a 224bhp engine fitted making it very fast. It has only done just over 6,000 miles and is in wonderful condition.
As if the above is not enough, a 1996 Ford Escort Cosworth Lux was sold at the same auction for an incredible £91,125. It too has that new car smell inside with its black leather seating and Diamond White bodywork. This classic car has only 837 miles on the clock.
If you would like to read about more of the classic cars that were sold at the above auction as well as those that were not sold why not visit the website of Silverstone Auctions. As you will discover, there were many makes and models of vehicles available to buy in addition to Ford cars such as Lotus, Porsche, Jaguar, Ferrari, Triumph and Morgan.
