Many of you will no doubt have watched the hit TV comedy series Last of the Summer Wine. In its heyday, it was viewed by many people – in particular probably people who resided in Yorkshire as it was filmed in the county. Well, you may be interested to read that a classic car that featured in the above TV series was recently sold at auction.
The vehicle in question was a red 1970 Triumph Herald 13/60. It was driven in the TV series by none other than Thora Hird who played a well-known character in Last of the Summer Wine. It had an estimated sale price of between £10,000 to £15,000 but was sold by Tennants Auctioneers a few days ago for £16,500. Presumably, the fact that it was driven by a TV personality meant that the classic open-topped vehicle was sold for more than one would normally have to pay for such a classic car.
The car had been subject to a thorough restoration. The paintwork was said to be in excellent condition. It appeared to have the original interior although new carpets have recently been fitted. At the time this Triumph Herald was built there were estate, saloon and convertible versions to choose from. This particular model was a convertible. We are sure that when this classic car takes to the roads it will catch the eyes of many a passer by.
There were a number of other interesting classic car sold at the above auction including: –
A 1961 Ford Anglia Saloon that had an estimated sale price of between £5,000 to £7,000. It was actually sold for £5,000. It had 77,889 miles on the clock. It has a 997cc engine. Its bodywork was in black and it had a red vinyl interior.
A lovely looking left-hand drive old english white 1960 MGA MK1 Roadster had an estimated sale price of between £22,000 to £25,000. It was sold for £22,000. It had 61,798 miles on the clock. It has a 1,600cc engine. It has been subject to a detailed restoration.
A left-hand drive 1967 VW 1600cc Split-Screen Minibus that had an estimated sale price of between £12,000 and £15,000 was actually sold for £11,500. Interestingly, this classic vehicle has been partly restored so may have appealed to someone who enjoys the prospect of restoring classic vehicles.
