If you happen to have been a fan of the pop group known as the Bee Gees then you may be interested to read that a Rolls-Royce Corniche Convertible once owned by Maurice Gibb was sold by Silverstone Auctions for £108,000 on Saturday 27th August 2022.
The classic car was bought by Maurice Gibb in 1979 for £35,000 and there is a carbon copy of the bill as part of the purchase price. The car was 6 years of age and had around 30,000 miles on the clock. The amount he paid was way above what the car was originally sold for when brand new but they were highly sought after luxury vehicles. The car’s bodywork was in Masons Black and it had a red leather interior.
Regrettably, Maurice Gibb died in January 2003 but the car remained in the family until being sold in 2012.
The registration number 9829 MG was sold with the car at the recent auction. The vehicle had the nickname of Rosie. When sold at auction it had 52,919 miles on the clock making it a very low mileage for its age.
As you can see from the photographs of the vehicle on the auctioneer’s website, it certainly is a lovely looking car both externally and internally. It would certainly catch the eye of many a passer by if seen out on a public road. Imagine driving this vehicle in the open countryside with the roof down on a beautiful, warm summer’s day.
Apparently Maurice Gibb had a love for the Rolls-Royce and owned more than one of them in his lifetime. He was in the fortunate financial position of being able to afford such a luxury car. Presumably, the car sold for more than it would normally have done due to it being once owned by a very famous pop star which is what Maurice Gibb was.
