If you have an interest in motorcars then you will almost certainly have heard of Jeremy Clarkson. He is a well-known television presenter whose speciality is motoring. He has featured in TV programs such as Top Gear and The Grand Tour accompanied by James May and Richard Hammond. So, when a classic car that he has some connection with is offered for sale it is likely to attract a bit extra attention.
Iconic Auctioneers are to hold an auction in the next few days at The Wing, Silverstone Circuit when a rather special 1992 Ford Escort RS Cosworth that was loaned to Jeremy Clarkson to evaluate it is available to bid for on the 24th August 2024. The guide price is £65,000 to £75,000. It begs the question if the connection with the TV presenter will have an impact upon how much it may be sold for.
What also makes this car special is that it is one of only three “pre-production protoypes” that were hand built. Apparently the car incorporated “Catalytic Converter Delete” whereas other models of this car did not include this feature. It is believed that these three cars cost more than a quarter of a million pounds to manufacture.
The coachwork is in Mallard Green and its condition is said to be superb. Jeremy Clarkson had the loan of the classic car for a year.
At some point it was offered as a prize for a competition in Top Car Magazine. You even got free car insurance for a year.
In the year 2000, the car ended up back with Jeremy Clarkson and it took part in another of his TV programs called Clarkson’s Car Years. Apparently, the car was believed to be one of his favourites and over the years he must have sat behind the wheel of a huge number of vehicles.
Anyway, if the above classic car appeals to you along with its interesting history, why not get along to the auction and take a closer look. If you are going to buy it then you will no doubt need classic car insurance so why not give us a call with a view to obtaining a competitive quotation without any obligation. We look forward to hearing from you.
